Paperchain - Romsey

I am writing this review on behalf of my partner who visited the store on Wednesday 5th August. She has lived and shopped in Romsey most of her life and has never felt the need to express her feelings in a negative way. After visiting a couple of shops and sanitising her hands when entering and exiting them she decided to pop into Paperchain to purchase a couple of birthday cards. On entering the store she was spoken to in an abrupt and unfriendly manner by an older female member of staff who told her she had to use the sanitiser provided. She was wearing her mask and had just sanitised her hands in another shop. Having worked in retail all her life and currently managing a busy shop she is fully aware of the protocols that are required and how to manage customers in these difficult times. She certainly did not expect to be spoken to in such as disrespectful way. To make matters worse, while she was browsing the cards she could hear the staff member telling her colleagues that my partner had not sanitised her hands (incorrect as had sanitised her hands before entering the shop). Feeling very aggrieved by the rudeness of the female staff member my partner decided to leave the shop without making a purchase and even on leaving heard the woman say ‘that’s the one’!! Whoever owns Paperchain in Romsey should certainly concentrate their efforts on training their retail staff in how to follow and advise on the current protocols in place and also remind them that manners do not cost anything except lost sales!

Myself and my partner are in our 60s. Was a little disappointed when shopping for a card for my parents son, in Romsey to be abruptly told to sanitizer our hands when I walked and pushing my partner in a wheelchair into the shop. We do get want is going on at the moment. And I do feel it was very unnecessary. So sadly we will not be shopping in Paperchain any more. O, to the shop assistant don't forget you will need a face covering as from a/m tomorrow.

Customer service was grievously mishandled. Was verbally assaulted over a situation that could have been handled in a less childish and aggressive manner. This experience with the above individual has tainted my view of Paperchain and I will not be supporting a business who treat their customers with disrespect. I heavily suggest the company review their recruitment method to make sure people like Mrs. Porter, who lacks mature social skills, are not employed under the Paperchain name to avoid such negative experiences from happening again. Alternatively, the company should look into improving their staff training so people like Mrs. Porter learn how to treat not only a customer but another human being with a bit of common courtesy. Currently, she does not want to treat others how she would want to be treated herself. Normally I support small businesses that improve the local economy but I heavily urge anyone else to get their supplies from alternative sources.

A note to Mrs. Porter - I advise you lower your voice and soften your tone next time you decide to bad mouth a customer to other staff members as you never know that the rest of the family will hear you again. I will be contacting your superiors with a formal complaint and I honestly hope you self-reflect from this negative experience and become a better person.
