Went into the store to buy an item with a gift card we’d been given, ( not a specific Hobbycraft one..) only to find that we were unable to use it without resorting to going back home and messing about on a laptop. Mirren ( and please let her know about this review..) was amazing! She was able to do it all on my phone for me, totally went the extra mile to assist us ( we’re not tech-savvy) and enabled us to buy the item! She deserves a medal for the help she gave us , and she’s a brilliant ambassador for the store.

I love hobby craft for its selection and currently with an online discount code I was able to get things for my business cheaper than the usual supplier we use. Subsequently this meant I went in store today to collect orders which totalled hundreds of pounds. Helpful staff, with one colleague whose name I wasn’t able to see offering to sign me up to a members card to get £5 off my in store purchase too (which was an impulsive buy)

Unfortunately the same can’t be said for Dawn. When the colleague who was serving me asked Dawn for some assistance on using the till Dawn abruptly questioned why I wasn’t already signed up to the members card as I’d just collected a handful of online orders.

Dawn turned to the colleague who was serving me and said “he’s just had loads of money off us with the online orders so he shouldn’t get the instore discount too” as she laughed in amusement that one might want to take advantage of discounts.

The helpful colleague serving me said “sorry I don’t understand, have I miss understood the members card”

Dawn replied (while stood in front of me, paying no attention to the fact I was stood there) “No, the gentleman has already had lots of discounts online, so can’t have anymore”

I explained that the orders I’d collected were infact for a business and that I as an individual did not have a members card. Dawn wasn’t interested and walked away muttering in disgust of someone shopping in store. Her rude and obnoxious attitude to customers spending money in the store stunned me, and also a customer who was behind me who caught up with me as we exited the store saying she too was shocked at her attitude so abruptly infront of me.

The helpful colleague pressed on and signed me up to the members card anyway and I spent a further £30 in store.

Now as far as I am aware, there’s an online discount code that is offered on the landing page of the website that is for £5 off a £25 spend. This discount code works as many times as you like and when running a business is super helpful. It meant I was able to purchase what I needed in 4 orders, getting £20 off my £100 spend. I then drove over to the store to collect the items and made an instore purchase too.

Unfortunately, it appears Dawn doesn’t want customers at Hobbycraft to be able to take advantage of discounts, despite it being what they are actively advertising online.

I will be using my usual supplier from now on. Even with generous discounts. Dawn completely lets down the staff team at Hobbycraft in York. I would much rather spend my money supporting business who value their customers and want the best for them, rather than ungrateful businesses who would rather you shopped elsewhere.

My advice, if you are going to shop savvy and take advantage of the discounts available here, avoid Dawn who will make you feel like a theif while spending money.

You all know fine well that this place is a black hole. You go in for one thing and leave with more projects to abandon halfway through (if you even get round to starting them) and everything is pretty expensive. However - the place was very clean, everything was easy to locate - staff were super friendly and I don't actually have any complaints other than that I went in two weeks ago and everything I bought is still in the bag under my kitchen table... If you need a quick and easy way to determine if you do, in fact, have adhd - this place is it. Conclusion - I clearly do. I'll get round to using all those buttons for something one day... Or Year... Or My grandchildren can have them in the will. Everythings fine.

Friendly staff and generally nice to have a browse. My only issue is that it's not as well stocked as the previous store which had two floors.

Whatever craft project you have in mind, you can probably find the perfect item in this store. The building is multi storey with crafts ranging from bridal, to children's all the way to seasonal offerings. It's easy to get lost in so much selection but staff are friendly and helpful.

I visited Hobbycraft at York in order to purchase the "Liteply" wood as advertised on the York Hobbycraft website, only to be told by the staff that this product was NOT available at the York store. The staff were very kind and helpful, hence the one star rating.
Poor show Hobbycraft.

It's a very useful place now that we don't have many independent haberdashery shops etc. An excellent, varied collection for many, many hobbies. It's a 4 stars for this visit because I wasn't able to buy what I was looking for.
