Would give it no stars if I could, extremely rude man, shouted card only when I tried to pay by cash, I told him I do not use a card I always pay cash....his answer was there is no place in the village for cash?! Don't think that is up to him to decide. Everywhere else in village happy to take cash. I'd pop to Alnwick or Amble for shopping before coming back to this shop! Will never use again. Disgraceful way to treat paying customers.

Stayed in Alnmouth for the weekend and popped into the village store for a few bits and pieces. It has a wide range of products.
It's expensive yes, but aren't all convenience stores? My husband got a hat and gloves there and these were reasonably prices. I know the chap who works there, likely the owner, gets such bad reviews for being rude but I didn't experience this, he actually greeted us as we entered the shop. I think it's maybe just his manner. The lady was very lovely. I'd shop there again when visiting beautiful Alnmouth. It's an aladdin's cave!

Can’t believe some of these reviews. We spent 3 days here and went in all the time. They had everything from poppadoms to oat milk to a nice pino noir. The couple who served us were very nice and we had a good bit of banter with them. Would definitely recommend this store.

After checking all negative reviews, I decided to visit the shop and buy few things. I received a nice welcome and staff member was helpful. Shop is clean very well stocked.
The rude staff member (the owner), wasn’t working the day I visited the shop… I came specifically to meet him ☹️. Maybe next time .
The shop welcome payment by cash or debit card ( 🛜 payment as last option).

Rude! Was there with an autistic young person I support and they were asked to leave the shop because they were holding a bag of chips we had just bought.. the chips were still wrapped up in a bag and we were literally just holding them. I said no as this young person needs constant supervision to help keep them safe - I just wanted to buy them an iced lolly as they love them! No apology! Just rude! I will never visit this shop again! Awful customer service!

I’d rather have given a Zero star review for the customer service just received. The gentleman who works in this shop really needs to consider another career, one which doesn’t include a customer facing role. His reaction when asked if they took Apple Pay was rude and ignorant.
Alnmouth is a lovely village and a great place to visit its relaxing and picturesque, shame the gentleman in the Mace is an angry little man who seems to despise customers

This should be such a nice little shop but the man behind the counter was so unbelievably rude for no reason. We went in and very politely said hello (with no response from the man I might add), browsed quietly and then went to the counter to pay. On trying to pay he barked at us that we needed to pay by debit card or cash and immediately got very stroppy whilst we dug out some cash from our rucksack. Mid transaction he barked at a another poor lady attempting to enter the shop, when he could have just quietly and politely asked her to wait outside until there were less people in the shop. Never seen anything like it, the guy was just horrible. If he had just politely asked if we could pay by debit card or cash, and explained it costs him less, then we would have been happy to oblige but with his attitude I wish we had just left the stuff and gone somewhere else to be honest. What an appalling attitude that spoilt what had been a nice visit to a lovely little seaside village.

One star for being open.
Once inside the man behind the counter was down right rude, he literally said - card only ! The only words he uttered, his helper little better as when asked if they stocked any fresh chicken breasts pointed to the back of the shop - they had none, this was pointed out and she replied, 'well we'll get some more tomorrow!' Just what you needed to hear when they were for tea that evening!
If you are staying in the area just go to Alnwick where there are Sainsbury's, Aldi and Lidl you'll get exactly what you require.
